History

The district is located just outside the Chestnut Hill and Mount Airy sections of Philadelphia, within Springfield Township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

This historic area dates back to the early 1700s, when William Penn granted much of the land to his first wife. Later, the region played a role in the American Revolution, including the Battle of Germantown and the march to Valley Forge.

Who We Are

The district serves the communities of:

  • Erdenheim
  • Flourtown
  • Oreland
  • Wyndmoor
  • Portions of Lafayette Hill and Glenside

We currently serve approximately 2,600 students across four schools:

  • Enfield Elementary School (Grades K–2)
  • Erdenheim Elementary School (Grades 3–5)
  • Springfield Middle School (Grades 6–8)
  • Springfield Township High School (Grades 9–12)

Facilities & Recent Improvements

The district has made significant investments in its facilities, including:

  • High School renovations (2019–2021), featuring:
    • New auxiliary gym
    • Locker rooms and bathrooms
    • Television studio
    • Fitness training facilities
    • Turf fields and athletic spaces
  • A new Enfield Elementary School, opened in September 2021
  • Additional athletic fields and walking paths at Church Road and Paper Mill Road

Staff & Class Sizes

The district employs approximately 270 professional staff members, including:

  • 217 classroom teachers
  • Specialists such as:
    • Special education teachers
    • Therapists
    • Counselors and social workers
    • Psychologists
    • ESL and reading specialists
