Mr. Brandon Lutz

Director of Technology

Brandon Lutz is excited to join the School District of Springfield Township team as the Director of Technology.  With over 20 years of experience in education, Mr. Lutz has a proven track record for driving innovation, advocating for technology integration, and fostering educational excellence. Mr. Lutz is excited to work with the staff and students at Springfield Township to make a transformative impact in the technology department and beyond.

After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Duquesne University, Brandon began his teaching career in the state of Kansas before moving to the School District of Philadelphia as a technology teacher for students in grades K-8.  Inspired by his technology position, he obtained a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from Chestnut Hill College and also earned his certification as an Instructional Technology Specialist. He then moved into an instructional coaching position before moving to the Bucks County Intermediate Unit where he worked with public, private, and parochial schools to enhance technology offerings in each school, provide parents and students with strong foundations in internet safety, and worked to support various grant initiatives.  In 2016, Brandon moved to the Cheltenham School District as the Supervisor of Instructional Technology and Data before joining the Abington School District as the Director of Innovation in April of 2020.  One of Brandon’s proudest achievements to date is moving Abington to 1:1 Chromebook devices during the shutdown, enabling all students to participate in online instruction.

Beyond his professional roles, Mr. Lutz is a recognized leader in the field of educational technology through his many years of  presenting at local, state, and national conferences. Notably, he served as the Vice President, President and Past President of the Pennsylvania Association for Educational Communications and Technology (PAECT) from 2014 to 2020. His contributions to the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo & Conference (PETE&C), as both the Program Chair from 2014 to 2020 and the President from 2017 to 2018, further underscore his commitment to advancing technology in education and was a contributing factor to Mr. Lutz becoming an inaugural member of the Futures Institute, a thought institute for innovation leaders in education.

Mr. Lutz is most well-known for his creation of the 60in60-style presentations, a concept he has championed for 15 years. His forward-thinking approach aligns with his core belief that curriculum should drive instruction, not technology. He embraces the philosophy of "Fail Forward," encouraging a culture of experimentation and growth in educational technology initiatives. Over the years, 60in60 has taken on a variety of forms, from a game show to a fast paced flurry of information, and he continues to fill seats and share educational web tools to new groups for educators.

In his new role as the Director of Technology in Springfield Township School District, Mr. Lutz will continue to champion innovation, leadership, advocacy, and development. He is dedicated to ensuring that students, teachers, and parents are equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world, reflecting his passion for fostering educational excellence.
