School Board
The School Board is made up of nine elected members who work together to support public education in Springfield Township.
What the School Board Does
The Board acts as a decision-making body and follows state laws and regulations.
Board members make decisions during public meetings, known as “sunshine meetings.”
Key Responsibilities
The School Board:
- Sets district policies
- Approves the annual budget
- Sets the school calendar
- Approves spending and contracts
- Approves curriculum changes
- Hires and evaluates the Superintendent
The Board is committed to providing a high-quality education for every student.
Additional Roles
- The Superintendent, Board Secretary, and Student Representative are non-voting members
- The Solicitor (lawyer) advises the Board on legal matters
Board Member Qualifications
To serve on the School Board, a person must:
- Be a Pennsylvania resident
- Be at least 18 years old
- Live in the school district for at least one year before election
Board members serve 4-year terms.
Meetings
Board meetings are held:
- 1st Tuesday of the month: Discussion meeting
- 3rd Tuesday of the month: Voting meeting
- Time: 7:00 PM
- Location: High School Library
Meeting dates may change due to holidays or special circumstances.
Public Participation
Community members are encouraged to attend and speak at meetings.
Guidelines for Public Comment
- Sign up before the meeting to speak
- Comments are addressed to the Board Chair
- Time may be limited to 3 minutes per person
- Board members may not respond immediately during the meeting
