Student Wellness Committee
The Student Wellness Committee is looking for students, parents, and staff members to join and support the district with matters related to student health topics. This committee will meet virtually 4 times per year to review and provide feedback on the School Wellness policy and to promote nutrition, physical education, and overall student health and well-being.
The School District of Springfield Township recently completed our Triennial Wellness Assessment Tool. For questions about the tool or it's completion, please contact the Business Office.

Meeting Agenda Notes
On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the School District of Springfield Township Student Wellness Committee met via Zoom. 5 committee members were present, includin community representatives from StoAc. The committee discussed upcoming family workshop series presentations. On November 15th, Be Part of the Conversation with present Alcohol: A Rite of Passage? via Zoom and on November 29th, they will provide an in-person presentation on The Search for Identity at the Middle School Library. All community members are invited to attend and bring guests. Other upcoming presentations include a January presentation on Vaping, a Social Media Presentation, and a February series on Preparing Your Child to Launch. The year will round out with Question, Persuade, Refer training in May.
StoAc shared that they continue to look for a high school advisor for their club and that they have started a club at the middle school. The high school group is busy planning the No Stigma/No Shame event. StoAc will offer QPR training in February and will be in attendance at the township Christmas tree lighting.
The district has two new initiatives that were started this year, Project Adam and Peter's Place Counseling Services. Students in need of grief counseling are being referred to Peter's Place with the counselors working to get enough students for onsite groups. Project Adam is a nationwide initiative that seeks to train people to perform hands only CPR and the proper use of an AED device. Interested staff members will receive training and will work in building based teams to acquire recognition as a fully trained district to respond to sudden cardiac arrest.
The 2nd Annual Family Wellness Fair is scheduled for March 13, 2024 from 6pm to 7:30pm at Enfield Elementary School. Interested health and wellness organizations can reserve a table by emailing michelle_lutz@sdst.org.
On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, the School District of Springfield Township Student Wellness Committee met via Zoom to kick off the 2023-2024 school year. 11 committee members were present, including community representatives from Be Smart and StoAc. The committee reviewed their mission and spent much of the night hearing updates from community representatives and discussing the 2nd Annual Family Wellness Fair.
Be Smart, a parent education group that focuses on safe handgun storage shared that last year's focus was on providing educational flyers to parents. They attended district events, including Back to School nights, and providing flyer baskets at all school and administration buildings. This year, Be Smart would like to provide a parent presentation to share safety and advocacy information.
The Springfield Township Opioid Action Committee (StoAc) shared that they continue to work with high school students as part of the student StoAc club. They are looking for a faculty advisor. Recent events include a Suicide Prevention Night and hands only CPR training and Narcan distribution. The high school club is looking to host an Open Mic night, hold a harm reduction meeting, and plan the 2nd annual No Stigma/No Shame event. Last year's event was very successful and StoAc heard great feedback from students and families. Several middle school parents have expressed an interest in having a middle school student group.
