No School, January 27, 2026

Dear SDST Community,

Good afternoon.  I hope that our students and families have enjoyed today's snow day and have safely "dug out" from the storm.  Our staff have been working remotely, and I hope they have also had a chance to clean up from the snow.

Our operations team has been working throughout the storm to clear and move a significant volume of snow, and our transportation department has prepared today by clearing and checking all of our buses.  However, we have several concerns regarding a safe opening tomorrow, and so we will be closed again on Tuesday, January 27th for a traditional snow day for students, and a remote work day for staff.  We anticipate reopening on Wednesday, January 28th on time.

Families can assist us and each other by ensuring that all sidewalks are fully cleared for student passage to accommodate our walkers.  The weather will be extremely cold all week, and we want to ensure that student walkers are able to safely travel on sidewalks and remain out of roadways.  In addition, we would appreciate any assistance in clearing bus stops so that students can stand on sidewalks and not in the street.  Many streets have narrowed passageways due to the amount of snow, and your assistance in keeping our students safe as they wait for the bus is greatly appreciated.

We also ask that when we return to school on Wednesday, all drivers (parents, staff and bus drivers) exercise caution as you travel along our streets and onto our campuses.  Lanes are narrower due to the snow volume, and it will be important for everyone to move safely for everyone's benefit.

I'd like to thank our operations team for their efforts this weekend, today, and tomorrow to clear and treat our lots, driveways and walkways to ensure that we will all be safe when we return to campus on Wednesday.

Thank you.

MaryJo Yannacone, Ed.D.
