My name is Kevin Maharaj and I am excited to be a member of the Springfield Township High School Science Department.   I have been teaching science at the High School level since 2013 and previously taught courses in Biology, Biochemistry, and Chemistry at the collegiate level.  I graduated in 2006 from Binghamton University with a degree in biochemistry and finished my doctorate in structural biology at the University at Buffalo.

I believe students learn science by doing science, and that my classes are a medium through which my students will learn life skills that are critical for their success in college and future careers.  As our students must be prepared to work cooperatively in a global and technological society where many of them will eventually hold jobs that do not yet exist, I emphasize critical thinking and problem solving, using our science content to develop good evidence-based reasoning and communication skills.

In short, my teaching philosophy is: Diligent, motivated students who are responsible for their own learning will become autonomous thinkers, discerning moral agents, and engaged citizens.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
