Kent Ferguson graduated Springfield Township High School in 1961. While at Springfield Kent was the class President, a Student Council Officer, pep rally chairman, and was the first recipient of the Richard Ream “Best All-Around Student” medal for scholarship, service and school spirit. Kent went on to attend Ursinus College where he continued his involvement with student government.Kent was the president of the College Honor Society. After Ursinus, Kent received a three year fellowship to study for his PhD degree at Claremont Graduate University in California. Kent has devoted most of his life to progressive schools and schooling, he has served as a consultant, or as a part of the school board for Montessori Schools, Waldorf Schools, Franciscan Schools, Public Charter Schools, Outdoor Education Schools, Adult Education Schools, and college preparatory schools. Kent founded, and was the Headmaster, for three different schools spanning thirty years including “New Age Alternative School”, “Santa Barbara Middle School”, which was the only stand alone middle school fully credentialed by the California Association of Independent schools, and “The School Down Under”, located in New Zealand. In 1998, Kent was honored by the Mayor and city council of Santa Barbara for work with students and the completion of one million miles of bicycling in nine western states. Kent is a published author of the book “Firesongs: Morning Musings, Evening Embers”, and now resides in the Zuni Mountains of New Mexico.
