Mr. Salvatore Raffa, LAT, ATC, SMTC, IASNC

Head Athletic Trainer

Sal Raffa, recently the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award though the college of Kinesiology at Temple University and recently earned his 1500 game milestone for professional games worked (2022). Prior to accepting the Head Role as an Athletic Trainer within the School District of Springfield Twp. Montgomery Co., he worked 21st season with the Flyers organization. He was promoted to the position in 2005 after spending two seasons as the Head Athletic Trainer with the Philadelphia Phantoms, where he was part of the team’s Calder Cup championship in 2005.

A native of Norristown, Pennsylvania, Raffa holds multiple degrees and has attended Temple University and United States Sports Academy with a focus on Education, Athletic Training and graduate studies in Sports Science. While at Temple, his clinical rotations were with Temple University Men's basketball under Hall of Fame coach John Chaney and also worked with the university’s Football team. He started his professional career in professional ice hockey as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Rockford IceHogs during the 2003-04 season.

Raffa is a Certified Athletic Trainer and is a licensed practitioner in Pennsylvania and New Jersey through the States Board of Medicine. He is a long standing member of New Jersey and Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society where he serves as the delegate for Bucks County and is a member of NATA scholarship committee. He holds Certifications in Blood Flow Restriction Therapy (BFR), Sports Manual Therapy (SMTC), Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Practitioner and is trained in functional movement and is a specialist in functional movement screening though Fusionettics, DorsaVi and Equilibrium.

He has been a part of many speaking engagements and symposiums educating students, Certified Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, and Physicians on sports related injuries, rehabilitation and the relationship between the hip and core complex. Currently working on research with the NHL, NHLPA, and Jefferson Sport Medicine physicians on “recognition and prevention of hip pathology in professional ice hockey players”.

Sal resides in Warrington, PA (Bucks County) with his wife Holly and sons Maximus and
Salvatore.
