Erdenheim Elementary
“Home of the Spartans where we are Spartan Strong!”
Dear Erdenheim Families,
We hope that everyone had a great week!
This is a reminder that beginning on Monday, April 22nd, Erdenheim Elementary School will be administering the state-mandated annual Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) for all students. Each year, our students are assessed in multiple subject areas including Reading, Math, and Science (for fourth grade only). As we have done in the past two years, students will use their district-issued Chromebook to complete their assessments online. As with any assessment, we encourage our students to do their best; however, it is not the sole indicator of their success.
Below is an overview of our testing schedule:
TESTING DATES:
English Language Arts: April 22nd, 23rd, and 24th
Math: April 29th and 30th
Science: May 1st and 2nd (Grade 4 ONLY)
STUDENT ATTENDANCE: It is important that all students be present during the testing dates. Anyone who is absent will be required to make up the tests. We ask that you make every effort to ensure that your child is in school for the assessments. On each day, our assessments will occur between 9:00-11:00 AM. Therefore, please try to avoid scheduling doctor appointments during these times. Make-up testing will occur when the student returns. It is important for students to be on time (as always) but especially during testing days. Students will not be admitted to their classes once testing has started, and they will be required to make up the test at a rescheduled time.
FAMILY/STUDENT PREPARATION:
Please be sure that your child receives an appropriate amount of rest the night prior to taking the assessment as well as eats a nutritious breakfast in the morning.
Classroom teachers will work with students to ensure their Chromebooks are charged and ready for testing.
You are not required to provide additional preparation for these assessments as both your child and our teachers have been working hard each day to develop competence on grade-level standards.
Please remind your child that electronic devices will not be permitted to be turned on or within reach of students. They will need to be placed in their backpacks. These devices include (iPads, Kindles, cell phones, Smartwatches, etc.). Please make sure you are familiar with the PSSA Cell Phone Policy as referenced in the PDE letter to parents/guardians.
Thank you for your support!

Mental Health Awareness Month Event
The School District of Springfield Township is pleased to present a FREE double header event for May's Mental Health Awareness Month. On Wednesday, May 15th at 5:30pm, please join us for a student and parent QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) suicide prevention session. ACCESS Services will provide information and research-based strategies to help prevent suicide and recognize the signs of suicide in friends and family members. This event is for students in grades 5 through 12 and all parents and community members and will take place in the Middle School Audion.
After the presentation, come hang out with us at 6:30pm in the Middle School Cafeteria and join our Depressed Cake Shop Pop-Up! Local clinician, Anna O'Brien, will talk about mental health while everyone gets to decorate cakes and cookies to take home or eat while you work! This fun-filled event takes the negative stigma out of talking about mental health. We'll have music, raffles, and fun while we decorate the night away!
This free event is funded by the Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services Office of Drug & Alcohol and the Keep It Safe Grant.
