Equity Vision Statement

Recognizing the diversity of our community, the School District of Springfield Township is committed to advancing equity and excellence for all students.

We strive to provide every student with access to meaningful, engaging, and high-quality learning experiences, regardless of race, ethnicity, economic background, identity, or other differences.

We believe educational equity requires fairness, access, and opportunity for all. To achieve this, we work to:

  • Remove barriers that limit student success
  • Provide resources and support based on student needs
  • Promote inclusive and welcoming learning environments
  • Continuously reflect on and improve our practices

📌 Adopted by the Springfield Township Board of School Directors in September 2019. In August 2025, the Board of School Directors approved the second Equity Action Plan for the 2025–2028 school years.

2022–2024 Equity Action Plan

In January 2022, the Board of School Directors approved the district’s first Equity Action Plan.

The plan was developed by a district-wide Equity Team made up of staff from:

  • Schools
  • Departments
  • Leadership teams

To support this work, the district partnered with the University of Pennsylvania Delaware Valley Consortium for Equity and Excellence (DVCEE). During the fall of 2021, the research team:

  • Conducted observations and interviews
  • Met with students, staff, families, administrators, and board members
  • Provided feedback and recommendations

The plan focused on promoting equitable practices throughout the district and ensuring that all students feel:

  • Safe
  • Welcome
  • Included
  • Supported

2025–2028 Equity Action Plan

After completing the first Equity Action Plan, the district conducted an Equity Audit in 2024 to review progress and identify future goals.

This work included:

  • Building and district reviews
  • Analysis of:
    • Achievement data
    • Attendance
    • Discipline
    • Graduation rates
    • Student belonging
  • Focus groups with more than:
    • 200 students
    • Parents
    • Community members

The district partnered with the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium (MAEC) and used their Criteria for Equitable Schools tools to guide the process.

In August 2025, the Board of School Directors approved the second Equity Action Plan for the 2025–2028 school years.
