Annual Public Notice of Services & Programs

The School District of Springfield Township is committed to identifying and supporting students who may need special education, gifted education, or Section 504 services.

According to state and federal law, school districts must provide annual notice about:

  • Child Find responsibilities
  • Special education services
  • Gifted education services
  • Section 504 protections and services

Children ages 3 through 21 may be eligible for services.

Child Find Responsibilities

The district conducts activities to identify students who may need:

  • Special education services
  • Gifted education services
  • Section 504 accommodations and supports

This applies to students attending:

  • Public schools
  • Private schools
  • Charter schools

Preschool Early Intervention

Children ages 3 through kindergarten age may qualify for services if they have developmental delays.

Areas of development include:

  • Cognitive skills
  • Communication
  • Physical development
  • Social/emotional skills
  • Self-help skills

Evaluation Process

Parents may request an evaluation if they believe their child may need services.

To Request an Evaluation:

  • Contact your child’s school, or
  • Submit a written request

For preschool-aged children, contact Montgomery County Intermediate Unit Early Intervention Services.

Parent Consent

School districts cannot begin:

  • Evaluations, or
  • Special education services

without written parent consent.

Parents also have the right to:

  • Review evaluation results
  • Request an independent educational evaluation

Program Development

If a child is found eligible:

  1. A team of professionals and parents meets
  2. An Individualized Education Program (IEP) may be developed
  3. Educational placement and services are determined

Parents must provide written consent before services begin.

Confidentiality of Information

The district protects the privacy of all student records.

  • Records are kept confidential
  • Information is shared only as permitted by law
  • Parent consent is required before releasing most records

These protections follow:

  • FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
  • Pennsylvania and federal special education laws
