Degrees and Certifications:
BFA from Tyler; MAT from University of the Arts
I began teaching at the High School in the fall of 2001 and currently teach all of the 3-D classes including Ceramics One, Ceramics Two, and Sculpture. I also teach Art One and Art Two.
In addition, I have been the adviser of the Theatrical Set Design Club since 2001 and the Springfield Gallery since founding it in 2005.
Before I was hired as a teacher in the district, I was here as an "Artist in Education Directory Artist" through the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. During my artist-in-residencies (1998-2000), I completed six major permanent public art projects with students in both Erdenheim Elementary and Springfield Middle School. In all the community and school-based residencies I did in Pennsylvania, I created public artworks that were developed collaboratively. These artworks were based on interdisciplinary themes linking local history, architecture, and personal narratives. The installations relate to my studio work as well, often using glass and other sculptural materials and processes.I integrate public art in several of my classes in the High School. Walking around the campus and inside the school, the community can experience many of the works that were created by our students. See the Philadelphia Inquirer video about public art at Springfield High School at this link .Public ArtI received my BFA from Tyler and my MAT from University of the Arts. I have three fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, an Artist As Catalyst 2000 grant from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, and was a Creative Glass Center of America Fellow at Wheaton Arts. In 2006 I was given the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award from the Montco Chamber of Commerce. and in 2008 I received an Educator 500 Award from the 3E Institute at Westchester University. My sculpture is in the collections of the Corning Museum of Glass, the Arco Chemical Company, Deloit Tauche Corporation, Merck Corporation, and the Wustum Museum of Fine Art.
