Assessment & Performance Data

At the School District of Springfield Township, we believe student success is best measured through multiple sources of information. No single assessment, score, or report can fully reflect a student’s growth, learning, or school experience.

We use a variety of data and performance measures to better understand student achievement, monitor progress, and evaluate the effectiveness of our programs. This information helps us celebrate successes, identify opportunities for improvement, and make informed decisions that support all learners.

Data helps us understand where we are, where we want to go, and how we can continue to improve. We are committed to transparency and believe that families and community members should have access to meaningful information about student learning, school performance, and district progress.

How Do We Measure Student Learning?

Student learning is measured in many ways throughout the school year. Teachers use classroom assignments, projects, assessments, observations, and student work to monitor progress and guide instruction.

The district also uses local and state assessments to better understand student achievement and growth over time. Looking at multiple sources of information helps us develop a more complete picture of each student’s learning and progress.

Measures of student learning may include:

  • Classroom assessments and student work
  • Report card grades
  • Local benchmark and diagnostic assessments
  • Progress monitoring data
  • Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA)
  • Keystone Exams
  • Advanced Placement (AP) exam participation and performance
  • PSAT, SAT, and ACT results
  • Student self-assessments aligned to the SDST Profile of a Graduate competencies

Together, these measures help us understand academic growth while also monitoring the skills, knowledge, and habits students need to be successful in school and beyond.

How Do We Measure School Performance?

School performance is measured using a variety of indicators that reflect both student achievement and school effectiveness. These measures help us understand how well we are meeting student needs and advancing district goals.

Examples include:

  • Student achievement and growth
  • Graduation rates
  • Attendance and engagement
  • Participation in advanced coursework and programs
  • College, career, and postsecondary readiness
  • School climate and student experience data
  • Progress toward district strategic goals
  • Progress toward district equity goals

At SDST, data is used to inform decisions, improve programs, and strengthen learning opportunities for all students.

Future Ready PA Index

The Future Ready PA Index is Pennsylvania’s public school performance reporting system. It provides a broad view of school performance using multiple indicators rather than a single overall score.

The report includes information about:

  • Academic achievement
  • Student growth
  • Graduation rates
  • College and career readiness
  • English language development
  • Progress toward state goals

The Future Ready PA Index helps families better understand school performance and supports transparency in public education.

Public Reporting & Accountability

Transparency and continuous improvement are important parts of our work. Each year, SDST shares information with the Board of School Directors and the community about student achievement, district priorities, and progress toward district goals.

These reports help our community:

  • Understand student performance
  • Celebrate areas of growth
  • Identify opportunities for improvement
  • Support informed decision-making

As a public school district, SDST also submits student, staffing, financial, and program information to the Pennsylvania Department of Education and other state and federal agencies. This information supports accountability, funding, and public reporting requirements.

Many public reports available to families, including the Future Ready PA Index and federal accountability reports, are based on information submitted by school districts throughout Pennsylvania.
