Curriculum Review

Our curriculum is built around a shared vision of what students should know and be able to do by graduation.
This vision is called the Profile of a Graduate. It helps guide:

• What we teach
• How learning connects across grades (K–12)
• How learning applies to real life and future goals

Curriculum development is a team effort that includes:

• Teachers and specialists
• School and district leaders
• Instructional coaches
• Students and families (when appropriate)

Teams work across grade levels to ensure learning is connected and consistent for all students.

Each year, the district reviews:

• At least one core subject, such as math, reading, or science
• One or more elective or program areas

This process helps make sure all subjects are reviewed regularly and stay up to date, challenging, and aligned with district goals.

Springfield Township is committed to being open and transparent about its curriculum.
Students, families, and community members can view Board-approved curriculum overviews for each course or subject. These overviews explain:

• Learning goals
• Key topics and skills
• The types of learning experiences students will have

Each school level—elementary, middle, and high school—provides curriculum guides or programs of study. These resources give a more detailed look at:

• Course options
• Learning pathways
• How skills and knowledge build from one grade to the next

They help families better understand how learning is structured across each school.

Teachers use detailed planning tools to guide:

• Daily lessons
• Instructional pacing
• Student assessment

These tools help ensure consistency across classrooms while still allowing teachers to adjust instruction based on student needs.
