Evaluation Services

All Springfield Township schools use a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to monitor student progress and provide academic and social-emotional support, interventions, and enrichment based on student needs.

• Your child’s school team will contact you if MTSS supports are recommended.
• If a student does not make progress with interventions, the school may recommend a multidisciplinary evaluation to determine if they are eligible for special education services.
• Our elementary schools conduct universal screenings in first and third grade to help identify students who may be eligible for gifted services.

Evaluations help determine whether a student is eligible for gifted services, special education services, or a Section 504 Service Agreement. Different evaluation processes are used for each type of support.

An evaluation helps identify a student’s:

• Strengths
• Needs
• Areas where support may be needed

School psychologists work with teachers, parents, and other staff to complete these evaluations.

After the evaluation:

If a student is found eligible for gifted services, special education services, or a Section 504 Service Agreement, a follow-up meeting will be scheduled to develop an appropriate plan of support.

Evaluation teams may include:

• School psychologists
• Teachers
• Parents/guardians
• Other professionals

Parent input is an important part of the process.

Students who already have an IEP are re-evaluated every 2–3 years, depending on their needs.

The purpose is to determine if:

• The student still qualifies for services
• Changes to the program are needed

The team will choose one of the following:

Option 1: Review Existing Information

The team reviews current data, including:

• IEPs and progress reports
• Report cards and attendance
• Behavior and assessment data

No new testing is done if there is enough information.

Option 2: Review + Additional Testing
The team reviews current information and may also:

• Conduct new assessments
• Gather additional data

This helps better understand the student’s progress and needs.
