Clearances are required for all roles to help ensure a safe environment for students.

How to Get Started

Contractor
All contractors must complete required clearances before starting work in the School District of Springfield Township.
These requirements follow state law and District Policy 818.
Before You Begin Work
All documents must be submitted to Human Resources before your first day in the district.
Required Clearances
Please complete and submit the following:
- State Police Clearance (Act 34)
- Complete online and print your results
- Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
- Submit electronically and print your results
- FBI Fingerprints (Act 114)
- Use Service Code: 1KG6XN
- Register online, then visit a fingerprint location
- Bring payment (check, money order, or credit card)
- TB Test
- Must be completed within 3 months before submission
- Act 24 (PDE Form 6004)
- Arrest/Conviction Report
- Act 168 (Sexual Misconduct Disclosure)
- Complete required forms or request the electronic version from Human Resources
Act 168 Requirement
You must complete a separate form for:
- Your current employer
- Any former school employers
- Any past jobs involving direct contact with children
Renewal Requirements
- State Police, Child Abuse, and FBI clearances must be renewed every 5 years

Current Employee
All employees and contractors must renew their clearances every 5 years (60 months).

How to Renew Your Clearances
Please complete the following:
- State Police Clearance (Act 34)
- Complete online
- Print your results right away
- Save your control number
- Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
- Submit electronically
- Print results immediately or wait for them by mail (up to 14 days)
- FBI Fingerprints (Act 114)
- Use Service Code: 1KG6XN
- Complete the online registration
- Schedule an appointment at a fingerprint location
- Bring your pre-enrollment form and payment (check, money order, or credit card)
Important Reminder
All clearances must be kept up to date to remain in compliance with district policy and state law.

Volunteer
The School District of Springfield Township values the important role that parents, guardians, and community volunteers play in supporting students and school programs.
What Is a Volunteer?
A volunteer is an adult who provides a service to the district without pay.
Volunteers do not have to be a parent or guardian of a student in the district.
Types of Volunteers
Position Volunteers
These volunteers work directly with students or support student activities.
Examples include:
- Field trip chaperones
- Classroom helpers
- Coaches or activity advisors
- Room parents
- Recess or lunch support
Guest Volunteers
These volunteers support events under staff supervision and do not have direct responsibility for students.
Examples include:
- Helping at events or assemblies
- Mystery Reader
- Collecting tickets
- Working concession stands
- Participating in Career Day
Important Information
- Volunteering is a privilege, not a right
- All volunteers must be approved before participating
- Volunteers must check in and show ID each time they enter a school
- The district may end volunteer service at any time
- Volunteers must report suspected child abuse as required by law
- Submit paperwork early. Approval is not guaranteed if submitted within 5 days of your event.
Position Volunteer Requirements
Before volunteering, you must complete:
- Registration Form
- Clearances
- Act 34: PA Criminal History Clearance (free)
- Act 151: PA Child Abuse Clearance (free)
- Act 114: FBI Fingerprint Clearance
- Service Code: 1KG6ZJ
- Not required if you have lived in PA for 10 years
- TB Test (if required)
- Needed if volunteering more than 10 hours per week
- Must be completed within 3 months of submission

Guest Volunteer Process
- Sign up through the event organizer
- The organizer submits your name for approval
- You will be entered into the school’s security system
Clearance Renewal
- All clearances are valid for 5 years
- You must renew them before they expire

Why are clearances required?
State law requires all volunteers who work with students to complete background checks. These rules help protect students and ensure a safe school environment.
What is the difference between a visitor and a volunteer?
- A visitor attends or observes an event (like concerts or conferences) and does not need clearances
- A volunteer provides a service or helps students and must complete required clearances
Visitors must still show a photo ID when entering the school.
Is there a cost for clearances?
- PA State Police Clearance (Act 34): Free
- Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151): Free
- FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114): About $27.50
Volunteers are responsible for these costs.
Do I need a TB test?
- Yes, if you volunteer more than 10 hours per week
- No, if you volunteer fewer than 10 hours per week
How long are clearances valid?
Clearances are valid for 5 years from the date they are issued.
Do I need to renew my TB test?
No. You only need to complete the TB test once.
How do I submit my paperwork?
You can submit your paperwork by:
