The American Revolution was fought between the United States and Britain. For many years the British had taxed the American colonists who when they protested recieved even more taxes. Finally war broke out at Lexinton and Concord. At first the colonist tried to make peace but when they were rebuffed, offically broke away from England in 1776. At first it looked like the British would win, they had a bigger army and navy. However the americans had a determined leader under George Washington and he refused to give in. Finally after 8 years of fighting the Americans emerged victorious winning full independence from Britian in 1783. |

The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and England over the impressment of American sailors. The war was a hard one for the Americans. The British blockaded American ports and burned the capital of Washington DC. Many of the American military operations went badly, while many Americans opposed the war. However during the Battle of New Orleans the final battle of the war the Americans slaghtered the British killing causing over 400 casulties while suffering only 23 casulties themselves. The war ended in 1814. |

The Mexican American war was fought between the United States and Mexico over the border of Texas. Despite being outnumbered in many battles the Americans achieved a quick victory anhilating the Mexican Army and capturing the capital of Mexico, Mexico city. At the end of the war the United States paid Mexico 4 million for the territory that would later become the southwestern United States. |

The American civil war was started when the southern states successed from the United States, the Union president Abe Lincoln refused to let that happen and war broke out. At first things went badly for the union because the Conferates had aggresive, smart and determined generals like Robert E. Lee, James Longstreet and stonewall Jackson. These generals drove back the union army again and again. Worried that England and France would reconize the Conderate government, Abe Lincoln signed the Emanicpation Proclaimation which freed the slaves and changed the objective of the war from preserving the union to liberating the slaves. The turning point in the war occured in 1863 when a union army defeated General Lee's army at Gettysburg Pennsylvania. Soon afterwards U.S. Grant took command of the union forces. His stragegy of constant attack finally forced the the confederate army to surrender at Apamatox, thus ending the Civil War. |

The Spainish American war was fought after a united States battleship exploded in a Cubian Harbor. In 4 months the United States defeated the Spainish winning over Cuba the Phillipeans and other Spainish colonial possesions. The victory was due in part to the United States superior techology as they had iron ships and repeating rifles. |
