Community
Springfield Township is located in suburban Philadelphia-adjacent to the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia.  There are five communities in Springfield Township: Oreland, Flourtown, Laverock, Wyndmoor, and Erdenheim.  The population is 19,500.  The community is mainly residential, having only a small percentage of small businesses.  Many occupations are represented in the parent group, but over 70% are in the business, professional and commercial areas.

School

Springfield Township High School is a comprehensive high school housing students in grades eight through twelve with a September 2007 enrollment of 830.  The school provides programs in college preparatory courses along with extensive offerings in fine arts and technology disciplines.
The academic program includes eleven (11) Advanced Placement courses, Studio Art, English, U.S. History, Psychology, Calculus, Statistics, French, Spanish, Music Theory, Computer Science and one science which could be one of the following: Biology, Physics or Environmental Science.  Honors courses are offered in English, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science.  Our Foreign Languages, French, German and Spanish, are offered in a five-year sequence.  Latin is offered in a two-year sequence.  Quest is an enrichment program for our mentally gifted students. It is designed to enrich curricular areas through an in-depth study of an interdisciplinary theme (examples: Human Mind, Law and Ethics).
Additional electives are available to students through Virtual High School (VHS) an independent learning experience via an on-line course using computer conferencing, bulletin board systems and e-mail interaction.  Montgomery County Community College professors teach elective courses (examples: Criminal Justice, Journalism) for which the students earn dual credits.
As a culminating graduation requirement, 12th Grade students complete Senior Thesis, a course that requires students to create an independent project based upon an area of interest.  To complete the project, students write a research paper and incorporate technology in a formal presentation to faculty and peers.
Students take three or four ninety-minute subjects a day (Intensive Block Scheduling) allowing for more in-depth subject content, a greater understanding of the material and the promotion of active student participation.

Accreditation
Springfield Township High School is accredited by the Middle States Association.

Class Rank: Computation and Interpretation
Class rank is computed according to the recommendations of the NASSP and the AACRAO.  To be ranked, a student must carry a minimum of six academic credits.  All subjects are included except those optional pass/fail courses in minor subjects.  The keen academic competition is reflected in the Final Grade Point Range of Averages (end of the 6th Semester) of the Class 2007 by quintiles.

 1st Quintile - 4.30 - 3.64
2nd Quintile - 3.63 - 3.31
3rd Quintile - 3.30 - 2.82
4th Quintile - 2.81 - 2.30
