Homework: I will
not collect homework on a daily basis. In order to do well in this class you
HAVE to do your homework. Most of the material on the tests and quizzes will
be related directly to your homework. This is essential for this class. If
you don't keep up on a daily basis, you are going to sink very fast. REMEMBER,
YOU MUST PASS THE EXAM WITH A 3 OR BETTER!
Quizzes: Quizzes may be given to ascertain your
grasp of homework problems. Problems may be selected verbatim from previous
homework assignments and given as a quiz. Quizzes may also be given to check
on your conceptual understanding of the material being studied. Tests: Tests
will be given periodically (usually every 2 - 4 weeks) in order to assess
your progress and prepare you for the AP exam. Tests will be lengthy, and
consist of problems you have not seen before.
Labs: Laboratory experiments shall enhance topics
discussed during class sessions. The labs performed shall be predetermined
by the instructor and may require a formal write-up. Requirements for the
lab experiment write-ups will be given in a separate handout.
Student Expectations: You are responsible for
your own learning! In addition to following the regulations and policies mandated
by Springfield High School, students are expected to exhibit a set of behaviors,
which promote academic and social success in Physics class. These
behaviors include the following:
~ Make a concerted effort to do all course work
and to obtain the teacher's assistance immediately if you encounter any difficulty.
~ Be in your seat, supplies out, ready to work
when the bell rings.
~ Turn in all assignments when due.
~ Treat everyone with the utmost respect and
dignity.
~ Do not talk during school announcements.
~ Remain in your seat until dismissed from class.
~ When you leave, push your chair under your
table.
~ Respect and care for all laboratory and classroom
equipment.
~ Exhibit a personal code of honor by taking
responsibility for one's work, performance and understanding of course content.
Other Requirements: You will be required to
assist first year physics students a minimum of 1 week during each semester.
You are responsible for signing up on the posted calendar and finding transportation
to arrive at school by 6:30 AM every morning for a week per "tour of duty".
Your responsibilities in this capacity will include tutoring, helping lab
groups with write-ups, grading, lab equipment set up and clean up, and other
duties as assigned.
