Requirements for Remaining in Good Standing Service Hours: see Service Hours. Scholarship: you must maintain a GPA of 3.7 or higher throughout your senior year or you can lose your membership in the honor society. Should this occur, you will not be recognized as a member of the honor society at graduation. Character: Honor society members are expected to serve as models for the rest of the school and to honor the terms of their ethical pledge. Students who behave unethically can be deemed as lacking in the good character necessary to continue as members in good standing in the honor society. Unethical behavior includes, but is not limited to, lying, cheating, acting dishonestly, plagiarizing, violating Springfield Township High School's student code of behavior, and breaking the law outside of school. Should such an unfortunate situation arise, that student will have the opportunity to meet with the Faculty Selection Committee to present his or her explanation of mitigating circumstances and/or other information which the student deems relevant to the committee's consideration of his or her situation, as specified in the chapter by-laws. The Faculty Selection Committee will then, in accordance with the chapter by-laws, consider the information before it to determine an appropriate response. See the chapter bylaws for additional information. Meetings: This is fundamentally a service organization and
there will not be many meetings during the year. However, if a meeting
is scheduled, members are required to attend. Honor society students
need to understand that other commitments may have to take second place
to honor society meetings, especially considering how very few of them
there will be. It is the responsibility of the members to check the
website, stay in touch with club officers, and to listen for announcements
of upcoming meetings. Students who exercise the senior privilege of
arriving late and/or leaving early are still responsible for finding
out about upcoming meeting and for attending them. Students who fail
to attend scheduled meetings in a timely manner may be subject to disciplinary
proceedings. |
