Web Development Workshop

Why publish on the Web?

More and more teachers are using the Web as a tool for communication and instruction. The Web offers an opportunity to communicate with students, parents and community 24/7, at the point of the user's convenience. Teachers who maintain Web pages have noted that they help strengthen home/school relationships. The Web also offers your students an opportunity to publish their work and share it with others outside our community.

A well-designed Web unit organizes Web resources and points students to quality, relevant information. It conveniently gathers all the materials students need to successfully complete a project and models effective electronic communication strategies. A Web page projects an important image of you, as a professional!

Subject Directories

Directories are organized listings of web pages arranged by subjects. Browsing through lists of sites works better than searching when you are looking for broad concepts, seeking to narrow a topic or if you do not have particularly unique keywords. So you may want to try these first!

Search Engines

Search engines allow you to enter keywords or strings of keywords into a search box and match words character for character. Strategy is important. Users should consider alternate keywords, use of logical operators, phrase searching and the unique syntax of each search engine. For best results check the "help" or "tips" pages. Several of the engines now have handy directories to browse.
