Summary of Procedure for Preparing to
Show Excerpts from or Entirety of R-rated Films
- Review “Policy for Using
R-Rated Films in the Classroom” and “Guidelines for Showing Films
in the Classroom."
- Preview the film, weigh its curricular value, and determine the instructional
goals for using excerpt(s) or the entire film.
Complete the “Teacher’s Request to Use R-Rated Video” form,
and submit it to the department coordinator or in the case of a department that
does not have a coordinator, submit the form to the principal.
- The department coordinator will share the request promptly with the other Academic
Standards committee members who will then review the request and sign off on
the form. Once a film is approved, it may be used for the given course without
approval prior to each use.)
- Send a letter to parents requesting permission for their child to view either
the chosen excerpts or the entire film. (See “Letter to Parents Regarding
Use of R-Rated Video” template.)
- Keep the parent permission forms on file until the end of the semester/year.
