Chicago: American Library Association, 2002.  93p  0-8389-0821-7.  $26.00. The authors simply and dramatically demonstrate the value of a collection evaluation with a brief 1984 report on the age and percent of the collection in a standard selection source. Its statistical points secured increased funding for a South Carolina elementary school. Such an analysis would be especially important for small and old collections and could also be used to guide purchases. After explaining techniques for sampling the collection, the authors present ìrecipesî for performing several types of qualitative and quantitative analysis on such a sample. They note, however, that it was two library school students who not only drew the sample but also collected and evaluated the data for the South Carolina report. The second part is a defense of weeding (collection reevaluation) with recommended guidelines. The text is supplemented by useful forms, spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and a bibliography.
