I considered collecting my usual long resource list of Web sites for this column but Ken Hartman saved me the time with the impressive page he created for the Villanova institute. His goal was to create a starting point for school counselors to create their own Web pages. We wanted to encourage participants to start here when building their own Web pages. We didn't want them to have to spend hours searching for the good stuff.

One of the most popular mailing lists for school counselors is the International Counselor Network (ICN). To subscribe, send an email message to: listserv@listserv.utk.edu

And a new idea in the college choice process:
One interesting new application mentioned by the high school counselors was e-college bid ( http://ecollegebid.org/ ), a new web site which provides a brokering service between colleges and prospective students. Students use an interactive form to enter their application information and the amount they are willing to pay for college. eCollegebid matches the family's ability or willingness to pay for a college education with the college's willingness to offer tuition discounts. Members of this consortium are generally private colleges that are not `household names' and do not often make the `rankings' found in the popular media. They are, however, colleges that offer challenging academic programs of study, excellent athletic programs, and active student/social activities. Many of these colleges are simply not known outside their region.
