Bonjour,

Francophone Travel Experts!

Problem  //  Task // Resources // Evaluation

Your “Problem”:

Your retired neighbor, Mrs. Smith, knows that you are a student taking French and would like your expertise to help her decide which francophone country would be the best for her to visit. She is willing to pay you (quite a bit of money!) for your suggestion. However, she has made the same offer to other students whom she knows also take French. She will take her trip to the country of the group who gives the best argument and she will pay only that group.

Your Task: To Persuade:

  1. You must choose a partner and decide from the list below which francophone country you want to persuade Mrs. Smith to visit. (The selection process is first come, first served until the list is complete.)

Your choices: France, Canada, Belgium, Côte d’Ivoire, Haiti, Cambodia, Switzerland

  1. You and your partner must then try to prepare a convincing argument based on what about your country would make it the best francophone country to visit. You must select three criteria from the following list. (After a day of researching, you will submit your list of criteria along with your country’s name and your names on the card that I provide.)

3. You must create a visual persuasive device to try to entice Mrs. Smith to visit your country of choice. The type of product (visual persuasion) is up to you, but it must be one of the following:

4. To accompany your visual, you must also turn in an annotated Works Consulted list (Mrs. Smith will want to know that you’re not misleading her and that you have credible sources!). This simply means that you find at least three high quality sources and record each source and some other important information about each of them. (High quality sources include websites and documents composed by the country’s government or credible travel agencies. You must be able to explain why a source is credible.)  Please complete this works consulted form.  Please consult our MLA Style Guide or use NoodleBib to help you create an accurate Works Consulted list.

You will word process the required information by accessing a document entitled “Works Consulted” on my web page: http://mail.sdst.org/~kirklin/.

5. Finally, you will present your argument to Mrs. Smith (using your visual), based on your three chosen criteria. Remember, you are  trying to convince Mrs. Smith to visit your country. It is not sufficient to present a list of reasons. Elaborate and give your presentation some personality! Mrs. Smith will choose the best one presented.
