Invite an Artist to Lunch: An Art WebQuest |

Objective: Create an invitation and a pathfinder based on the work of an artist you
admire. You need to choose an artist you would like to "invite" to a
meal. Make an invitation that would persuade your artist to accept your
invitation. Finally, you will present a pathfinder and invitation that exhibits
the BEST sources of information and representation of the artist.
- Create a Pathfinder showing your research journey. Use the template to guide you. Create a folder with YOUR last name. Save the template, visuals, and information in your folder. The pathfinder needs to be saved (in lowercase) with your Artist's last name.htm (ex: davinci.htm)
- Design and create an invitation, asking your artist to join you for a meal of your choice. Think about what kind of invitation would interest your artist. Somehow convince them to join you. Your invitation should be creative: (ex. if you were to invite Rodin, you could create a small sculpture with your invitation inscribed along the bottom)
- Oral Presentation - Presentation of information about the artist using the pathfinder and invitation.
Pathfinder:
- Select an artist. Gather information about this artist, citing important facts that need to be known to understand who this artist is and why they are important. Explain what it is about this artist that influences, inspires, and intrigues you.
- Give specific examples, where the best references can be found and explanations about the work(s) that capture your attention.
- Your Pathfinder should visually reflect your artist. Think about technique, style, and time period. Consider font styles, background, images, and pictures when designing the pathfinder. (Ex. if you were to use Rodin, your background could be a marbled picture to represent his work in marble; your font could be Engravers MT to represent his work in stone.)
*Note: Readability of the pathfinder when it is on the computer screen and projected needs to be considered.
- Present the pathfinder you created. Describe (compare/contrast) the work of your artist and your own work. Explain how your work was influenced by the artist, where you can see that influence in your work, and why and/or how their work is valuable to you.
Invitation:
- Using the information and visuals you have researched, create an invitation asking your artist to a meal.
- The invitation needs to reflect the artist's style and intice him/her to accept the invitation.
- Consider the Principles and Elements of Design when creating the finished product. Choice of medium and size is up to you.
Presentation: Present your
work to the class. There will be a separate critique for your invitation and
pathfinder presentation. Explain the process that went into creating these works
of art.
Your presentation is assessment is based on the following components.
1.) Discussing the artist you chose and WHY you chose that artist. What influenced you and made you choose them?
2.) Explain the research you did on that artist; report any valuable, interesting, unique findings. Cite the BEST sources for researching this artist.
3.) Display the invitation you made and explain the thought process that went into making the invitation. Explain what you would want to find out about your artist during the time spent at the meal.
Remember to check our Patron Catalog for books. Click here to access the catalog from home. We have hundreds of books on artists in Dewey numbers 709 and 759!
Students will be graded on the invitation (40%), pathfinder (40%), and presentation (20%). Rubrics will be distributed by your teacher.
