Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship: College scholarship opportunity for Juniors:

The VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) is offering scholarships for college to 9th through 12th graders.
An essay is required. The topic is "Does My Generation Have a Role in America's Future?" Deadline is Nov. 1, 2010. See your counselor for details.


The Anna Vincent Scholarship
Requirements
  1. Be a resident of Philadelphia or the surrounding 5 county area
  2. Have high scholastic standing and good character
  3. Have a part-time job

We are pleased to announce that applications are now available for the 2009-2010 Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC®) three scholarship programs.

The scholarships offered in the Greater Philadelphia Region are as follows:

 *    RMHC Scholars for high school seniors of all backgrounds;

 *    RMHC/Future Achievers® for African American high school seniors; and,

 *    RMHC/HACER® for Latino high school seniors.

Each scholarship program will offer fifteen scholarships: two (2) at $5,000 and thirteen (13) at $1,000.

 

All college-bound high school seniors in Southeastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware are eligible to receive an RMHC scholarship. To apply for any of the three scholarships listed above, students should complete the corresponding application and send it to the address listed on the application by February 16, 2010. These applications may be photocopied to maximize distribution.


RMHC is proud to have awarded more than $37 million to help high school students across the nation attend college. United Steelworkers Hugh Carcella Scholarship Program 6 four-year scholarships, with a total value of $4000 ($1000 per year) will be awarded
Eligibility: applicant must be a member in good standing, or the son/daughter or legal ward of a member of a United Steelworkers, District 10 (Eastern) local union
Selection process: a selection committee will review applicant's grades, SAT's/etc., other information supplied by high school, and conduct interviews.
APPLICATIONS may be obtained, upon request, from participating local untions. Must be signed by the President and Recording Secretary of local union.

Mensa Foundation Scholarship Competition Eligibility - applicant must be enrolled, for the academic year following the award, in a degree program in an accredited American institute of post-secondary education, and be a resident of the area of a participating local group of American Mensa
Conditions of award - applicant must write an essay of fewer than 550 words, which describes applicant's career, vocational, or academic goal toward which the scholarship is to provide aid.
Entries will be judged and awarded at 3 levels: local, regional, and national. Awards are in amounts ranging from $300 to $1000.

John McKee Scholarships - Offers college or vocational training scholarships for high school seniors. Requirements: - Fatherless boys, in need of financial assistance, nNative to the 5 county Philadelphia area in PA (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia). Preference will be given to those desirous of obtaining a naval education. Deadline: Applications must be received before February 1, 2010. Seniors who are applying to any of these universities: Drexel, Johnson & Wales, Kettering, PACE or Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, or Wentworth Institute of Technology and are interested in the co-op program, you may eligible for a scholarship. UNC-CHARLOTTE The Levine Scholars Program-full tuition and room and board. Criteria: commitment to community service, intellectual curiosity, and the capacity for ethical leadership. 3.8 high school gpa, 1800-2400 SAT or 29-36 ACT scores. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 2010-2011 Academic Year Scholarship/Leadership "Most Valuable Student" Program The B.P.O.E. provides more that $2,000,000 annually in funds for secondary education. Applications for this program are available online at www.elks.org , click the "lodge locator" and enter the school zip code (19038). Applications are also available through your local Elks Lodge. Students graduating in 2010 are eligible.

Philadelphia Publinks Golf Association Scholarship-For students pursuing education at four year colleges or universities. Recipients should be in search of financial aid for education expenses, possess a solid high school transcript and a passion for the game of golf. Scholarships ranging from $500 to $1000 will be awarded. More information is available on www.phillypublinks.com.


Delaware Valley Chapter of Hearing Loss Association of America-will award a $500 scholarship to high school seniors with a hearing loss who are planning on attending a college or vocational school. Application is available in the guidance office.


The organization known as Pride of the Greater Lehigh Valley is sponsoring the Rainbow scholarship. The scholarship seeks to assist gay and lesbian teens with college expenses. Applications can be found at www.prideglv.org


The Mervyn Sluizer Scholarship is now accepting applications. Requirements are:

1. must have been an active Boy Scout for at least 5 years and must be currently active at the time of application.
2. must have attained the rank of Eagle
3. have demonstrated responsible leadership as a Scout for at least 1 year

The Hispanic Youth Awards is again sponsoring the Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards. Awards are given in 6 different categories: Business, Education, Engineering and Math, Journalism, Leadership, and Sports. If interested, go to the following web site: www.HispanicHeritage.org.


The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials-available to graduating seniors who are enrolling in either a 4 year degree program or a 2 year technical program. Several scholarships are available, including 1 for students who plan on going to Drexel, Cheyney, or St. Joe's. For applications, go to their web site www.comtophilagolf.com or see your counselor.


The Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association (PenSPRA) will
provide educational scholarships for those interested in pursuing a career in
a communications field (English, journalism, public relations, advertising or graphic arts)
Three $500 scholarships will be presented to worthy recipients from the East
Region, Central Region and West Region of the Commonwealth. We invite
all interested candidates to complete and submit the application. The application is

The Platt Caddie Scholarship is for caddie scholars in pursuit of higher education.  Applicants must have caddied for at least one year at a member club of the Golf Assoc. of Philadelphia. Contact Bob Caucci (610) 687-2340 x21 or bcaucci@gapgolf.org for more information.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore County offers a scholarship to seniors with a high GPA interested in science or engineering.

The John F. Kennedy "Profile in Courage" Essay Contest is open to students in grades nine through twelve. The first place winner will receive $5,000. Submission Deadline is January 9, 2010. Visit http://www.jfklibrary.org for more information.


The Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Scholarship offers tuition and financial benefits worth up to $180,000. To get more information and apply visit: https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/


The Eagles Fly for Leukemia is currently accepting applications for its Kim Hill College Scholarship Program, a Saint Joseph's University full-tuition scholarship, and a Drexel University full-tuition scholarship.

The Horatio Alger Pennsylvania Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to students in the state of Pennsylvania who have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and who aspire to pursue higher education. THE MENSA FOUNDATION ESSAY COMPETITION

    Undergraduate Scholarships Available for Chemical Science and Chemical Technology Majors — The American Chemical Society (ACS) Scholars Program is now accepting applications for the 2010-2011 academic year. This program is targeted at minority groups considered to be under-represented in the sciences- African American, American Indian and Hispanic or Latino students. Award amounts are based on financial need and can be up to $2500 per academic year for college freshmen, up to $3000 per year for college sophomores, and up to $5000 per year for college juniors and seniors. This scholarship is also available to students in two-year chemical technology programs.
    Graduating high school seniors, college freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to apply. The number and amount of awards are subject to available funding. We must receive applications by March 1, 2010. Students in pre-med, pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, and veterinary medicine programs are not eligible for this scholarship.

    American Heritage Federal Credit Union Scholarship — open to all seniors who will be attending either a 2 or 4 year college in the fall. Forms available at www.amhfcu.org


    Celia Moy Yep Scholarship Award — open to deserving Asian American high school female students who have demonstrated academic excellence, and who have made a positive impact on their community through their sustained service and leader, and who will attend a fou-ryear or two-year accredited college.     Freedom Credit Union — will award four $1,000 scholarships to qualified students to be applied to any portion of an accredited college or university's comprehensive fee. For more information go to www.freedomcu.org


    The Jackie Robinson Foundation — provides scholarships of up to $7500 annually to minority high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attent and accredited 4-year college or university of their choice.     ACT Poster Contest — The ACT is conducting a Poster Contest and the winners will be awarded scholarship money to attend the college of their choice. This contest is open to 11th and 12th grade students. For an official entry form visit www.actstudent.org/postercontest


    The Principal's Leadership Award - This scholarship recognizes outstanding student leaders. The top winner receives a $12,000 scholarship. All information, instructions, and criteria can be downloaded from www.principals.org/PLA

    AXA Achievement Scholarship - This scholarship is for students who are active in their communities. To learn more and download an application please visit: www.axa-achievement.com

    Ithaca College's Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholar Program is an interdisciplinary learning community emphasizing citizenship and service in our global community. Scholars receive an award ranging from $18,000 to full tuition each year in both merit-based and need-based aid. Information is available at www.ithica.edu/mlk. If interested see your counselor.


    The Rainbow Scholarship offers three awards in June to seniors. The first award is based on academic excellence, the second is based on community involvement and the third is an essay contest.
