Physical Education & Health


Physical Education #1750 (.5 credit)

Students will apply their knowledge of personal fitness in a program designed to enhance individual fitness components in a developmentally appropriate and personally challenging program. In addition, students will develop knowledge of sport-specific skills and strategies, and cooperative skills through participation in various team and individual sports including: volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, football, dance, golf, cooperative games, tennis and badminton. Grades 9-10


Fitness for Life #1756 (.5 credit)

Students will further their knowledge of lifetime fitness through assessment of each of the health related fitness components, interpreting the results and setting personal fitness goals for each component that is specific, attainable and measurable. Students will engage in a variety of activities and evaluate them in terms of fitness maintenance and development. This course will incorporates various equipment and fitness strategies, including heart rate monitors, plyometrics, resisitance bands and the fitness center. Grades 10-12. Prerequisite: PE 9/10


Personal Conditioning and Fitness #1755 (.5 Credit)

Students will develop a sport-specific personal fitness and conditioning program by assessing components of health-related and skills-related fitness, interpreting the results and setting personal fitness goals. Students will indentify various strength training and conditioning principles and strategies. Then select and participate in activities that will enhance fitness development appropriate for their individual needs. Grades 11/12. Prerequisite: PE 9/10.


Team and Lifetime Sports #1760 (.5 Credit)

Students will develop and maintain individual fitness, knowledge of sport-specific skills and strategies, and social and cooperative skills through participation in various team and individual sports. These activities may include the following: volleyball, football, team handball, lacrosse, floor hockey, ultimate Frisbee, orienteering, fitness walking, tennis, badminiton, golf and pickle ball. Grades 11/12


Lifeguard training/First Aid/CPR #1759 (.5 Credit)

This course is designed to prepare the students for opportunities for employment as a certified lifeguard. This is a Red Cross certified program in which students will learn and practice basic rescue skills, first aid and CPR techniques. There will a fee of $75 to cover the cost of certification for each student. Grades 10-12. Prerequisite: PE 9/10 and must be 15 prior to the conclusion of the course.


Health #1776 (.5 Credit)

This course is taught with an emphasis on wellness and the interrelationship of the health triangle (mental, physical and social health). It includes the study of abusive substances, body systems, consumer health, personal fitness, mental health, human sexuality, and STD's.


Racquet and Net Sports #1764 (.5 Credit)

Students will be given the opportunity to focus on three main racquet sports and one net sport: tennis, badminiton, pickleball, and volleyball. They will further their knowledge of each sport by studying rules and strategies. Their skills will improve through drills and game play. They will also be given the opportunity to participate in strength/fitness training to enhance their performance level in each sport. This course will promote social skills and cooperation and will help students develop an appreciation for sports that encourage a lifetime fitness plan. Grades 10-12. Prerequisite: PE 9/10.
