Gifted Support

The School District of Springfield Township administers this program under the Pennsylvania Department of Education Gifted Guidelines. Students are identified by a variety of criteria that have been approved by the School Board. Gifted students are provided enriched and/or accelerated curricula.

Quest 9 #1121 (1 credit)

Quest 9, freshman enrichment, is a compacted curriculum that includes the required Computer Science 9 within the framework of future studies. Students design and build robots to solve real world problems in addition to the course work required to prove mastery of the standards addressed in Computer Science 9. Students read fiction and non-fiction on a variety of topics related to future studies and will discuss their readings online. Students have an opportunity to have their science fiction short story or future studies article published. Experiences include a field trip to see robots in action in our world today and to see the latest robotic research going on in our region. Successful completion of this course allows the student to begin customizing their education through selection of additional electives as early as sophomore year.

Quest 10 #2225 (1 credit)

Quest 10 enriches student work in media communications. Students extend their research skills and develop television production skills by creating short documentaries and artistic video/film pieces for submission to a student film festival. Attending workshops run by media professionals, Quest 10 students take part in a variety of learning and critiquing experiences. Students also read and respond to various journals and other publications on current media developments and issues. As a class, they produce a television magazine program to be aired on our cable network.

Quest 11 #2235 (1 credit)

11th grade gifted students are involved in a non-credit mentoring program. They meet periodically throughout the semester with the high school guidance counselors and representatives from tier one colleges for assistance in preparing college applications and planning courses of study as they transition to postsecondary life.

Quest 12 #2230 (.5 credit)

Quest 12 students select a topic and explore its complexities. Scholarly work and synthesis provide students with college level rigor. At the end of the course, students emerge with an extensive research paper and have defended their work in front of teachers and administrators.
