There are many art courses available to all students of different levels and ability. There are courses for people who like to work on paper and other for those who like to work with their hands. Here is a list a courses and a description of each course. So go ahead a choose the right class for you.
Art I #1005 (1 credit)
This introductory course explores the fundamentals of fine art and design
by using a wide range of materials and techniques.
Art II #1010 (1 credit)
After learning the fundamentals of Art I, a student will further explore media
as well as experience new techniques such as acrylic painting and the principles
of multi-dimensional design. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art I.
Art III #1015 (1 credit)
This course includes a refinement of techniques and expansion of the scope
of the media previously studied in Art II. The students will be introduced
to printmaking and problem solving assignments. Prerequisite: Successful completion
of Art II.
Art IV (Honors) #1020 (1 credit)
This demanding college level course is the most advanced general art course.
It includes greater emphasis on individual development, portfolio preparation,
homework, art history, related field trips, career awareness and advanced
presentations skills. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art III.
Graphics #1025 (1 credit) Basic printmaking, fundamentals in etching, block printing, silk screening and collograph as well as advanced color printing techniques are included in this course. Grades 10,11,12.
Ceramics I #1035 (1 credit) Students will learn to produce clay, pottery and sculpture using hand building, wheel throwing and glazing techniques. Grades 10,11,12.
Ceramics II #1037 (1 credit) After learning the fundamentals in Ceramics I, this course focuses on more advanced/refined techniques as well as individual development. Students' work will be influenced by their study of various artists and cultural styles. Grades 11, 12. Prerequisite: " B" or better in Ceramics I or teacher recommendation.
Painting and Drawing #1030 (1 credit) Students will learn to prepare canvases for painting and to experiment with acrylic paints. Drawing will be done in various media. Grades 10,11, 12. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art I.
Sculpture #1053 (1 credit) Students will learn basic sculpting techniques including assemblage, carving, casting and modeling. Three dimensional construction will be introduced with attention to design principles, design elements and related artists. Students will discover how to create effective spatial relationships using a variety of media including clay, plaster and paper. (Grade 10-12). Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art I.
Art Explorations #1045 (1 credit) This beginning level course is designed to introduce students to various world cultures and artistic movements through art projects, slide lectures, multi-media presentations and educational games. Although the bulk of the course will be related art projects, some written work and tests are part of this course. (Grades 9-12)
Fibers and Crafts #1050 (1 credit) This course teaches basic techniques in batik and dying, weaving, papermaking and needlework as well as developing a sensitivity toward color and design. Functional and decorative crafts are explored along with non-functional fine arts.
