Springfield Township High School extends its curriculum choices to students and increases its flexible scheduling opportunities through its participation in the Virtual High School (VHS) program. This project, which is available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors, is a consortium of high schools from around the country. All course activity occurs on-line, using computer conferencing, bulletin board systems, and e-mail interaction. On-line courses involve readings, large and small group discussions and seminars, collaboration, and individual as well as group projects. A STHS faculty member supports these internet courses. Courses available range from Advanced Placement and other advanced academic offerings to technical and special-interest courses. Presently, STHS offers approximately 120 VHS courses, although only 20 seats are available during the school year. Interested students must have at least a 2.5 cumulative Grade Point Average, must complete an application, and must obtain a recommendation from at least two of their current teachers. The successful student will be a self-directed learner. A complete course catalog is available on-line here |
