Information Technology (formerly Tech 9)
Course Description
The students will become proficent in the management of information using networks and computer operating software. Students, as computer application users, will gain an intermediate/advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office. Students will create graphically enhanced documents (Word), input data and generate graphs in spreadsheets (Excel), and create tables, forms and queries for databases (Access). Students as computer designers, will deliver a multimedia presentation (PowerPoint) and evaluate, plan and create basic web pages using HTML code. Required for all Grade 9 students.

Marking Period 1 - Instructional Focus is Microsoft Office
* Intro to Windows file folder management & Montgomery County Intermediate Unit bulletin board for online course content
* Intermediate / Advanced features of MS Word
* Intermediate data entry, formulas and charting in MS Excel
* Career Unit with students taking an ‘Interest Profiler’
* Integrating MS Office applications e.g. mail merge
Marking Period 2 - Instructional Focus is Exposure to HS Technology
* Desktop Publishing with MS Publisher by means of group work in publishing a newsletter and sharing electronic files
* Graphic manipulation with an introduction to Adobe Photoshop
* Introduction to databases with MS Access
* Advanced slide presentation skills using MS PowerPoint
* Introduction to computer science through Alice – an animation software package
Marking Period 3 - Instructional Focus is Intro to Web Design and Development
* Creation of an online resume using MS Word
* Introduction to XHTML
* Beginning features of web development using the industry standard Macromedia Dreamweaver.
Course Final Project - Integrated project applying learned skills.
Grades
Assessments: Grading using the point system with rubrics on all class work.
Cheating and plagiarism will result in a grade of zero for the project and the assignment may not be made up.
Student excused absence - student is responsible for making up assignments.
