The Department of Health, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, has directed all children entering school for the first time (kindergarten, first grade, or transferring from out-of-state or out-of-country) shall have a dental examination. Examinations are required again for all students in third grade and in seventh grade. This regulation applies for children attending public, private, and parochial schools in Pennsylvania.

We encourage you to have this examination completed by your family dentist who is familiar with your child's dental history. Dental examinations done after September 10 of the year preceding school entry meet the State Health Regulations. Please have the private dentist form (PDF) completed and returned to your child's assigned school in an envelope marked, "Attention School Nurse" on or before the opening of school in September.
