704. MAINTENANCE

1. Purpose

Maintenance of buildings, grounds and property is essential to providing effective educational programs and efficient management of the district.

2. Authority

SC 701

The Board directs an ongoing program of inspection and maintenance of all school buildings and equipment. Wherever possible, maintenance shall be preventive.

3.Responsibility

The Director of Facilities shall develop and implement a maintenance program which shall include a regular program of facilities repair and conditioning, an equipment replacement program, and a long-range program of building modernization and reconditioning.

The Director of Facilities and the custodial staff, in conjunction with the building principals, are charged with caring for and protecting school facilities and grounds.

Principals, in conjunction with the Director of Facilities, shall carry on an ongoing inspection of the school building including food service areas, boiler area, hot water systems, generators, high voltage areas, playground equipment, and electrical wiring.

Annually, the Superintendent, Business Administrator and Director of Facilities shall provide a report to the Board on the condition of all facilities, a list of projects and improvements to be made in the ensuing year and shall update the long range plan regarding capital needs.
