                        Policy 426.1               Problem Resolution

The Board of School Directors has a commitment to the principle of fairness and equity in the solution of issues that occur throughout the school district.

Therefore, the Board has created this policy to clarify the principles that will be followed in regard to the relationships among teachers, parents, students, district administration and the Board of School Directors.  Problems or issues that originate at the school building level which involve students and/or parents and their relationship with professional staff members should be solved at the level closest to their origin.  The Board believes that channels of communication and personal dialogue between students and teachers and/or parents and teachers, i.e., those most directly involved with a problem, provide the greatest potential to solve problems or issues.

When the principal becomes aware of a problem or issue regarding a student, the teacher will be notified and the teacher and the parent will meet to try to solve the problem.  If no solution is reached, the principal will attempt to assist in the solution of the problem by bringing the parties together to resolve the issue at the building level.

Thereafter, if no solution is reached, the problem or issue shall be moved forward on the Table of Organization (Policy 008) to the next higher level.  The Association President will be notified of the existence of a problem or issue at the time it is referred to the Assistant Superintendent’s level.

The Superintendent is authorized to develop Administrative rules to implement this policy.
