231-AR. Social Events and Class Trips

Social Events

The following guidelines will be followed by all students involved in school sponsored social events and class trips. Field trips are covered by Policy 121.

Social events, such as dances, held in a school shall be approved in advance by the principal, who shall serve as the clearing house for such functions in the building.

Any organization planning to sponsor a social event must consult with the building principal.

The advisor of the organization sponsoring each event shall be responsible for planning and arranging all details.

Each event must have at least two (2) adult chaperones in attendance. Failure to provide adequate chaperones will result in cancellation of the event by the principal.

Class Trips

It shall be the responsibility of the class trip sponsor to inform the building principal in writing concerning the dates and details of the planned trip, who shall forward such information to the Superintendent.

The principal's written approval must be secured before planning proceeds. The Superintendent's written approval must be obtained before any class trip commitments are made.

The class trip sponsor shall obtain written permission for the trip from the parents/guardians of all participants.

Overnight trips must meet the following criteria:

  1. Educational value of the trip must be reported in a written statement.
  2. All necessary expenses shall be the responsibility of the group.
  3. Expenses for participants shall not prohibit any student from participating.
  4. All established school rules are in effect for the duration of the trip, and any violation of these rules shall be reported by the class trip sponsor to the building principal. Students shall be held responsible for compliance with rules, and infractions of those rules will be subject to the same disciplinary actions serving as consequences during the regular school program.

Students are responsible for obtaining homework assignment(s) prior to an absence from school and must make up all homework assignments which may have been missed.
