204. Attendance
|
1.Purpose |
The School Code of Pennsylvania requires attendance
at schools for a student under seventeen (17) years of age. The
Code places the responsibility of a student's regular school attendance
upon the parent(s) or guardian. Truancy will not be tolerated.
|
SC 1327,
1329,
1330 |
The School Code further provides that absences
from school may be excused for mental, physical or other justifiable
reasons. The Code delineates a procedure involving penalties to
parents, including an appearance before a district justice, when
absences are unexcused.
|
2.Authority |
The Board recognizes that regular school attendance is an integral
part of every student's educational program. Moreover, it is essential
that students have sufficient opportunities for daily skill development
and practice under the direct supervision of certified instructors.
The Board also recognizes that there may be valuable learning
experiences outside of the school setting. These experiences,
whether chaperoned by parents, teachers, or members of the community,
may add to the total education of a student. The laws and regulations
are designed to prevent truancy and are not designed to limit
a student's learning opportunities as offered by the school. From
time to time parents may request approval of absence for a student.
Special requests, when submitted in advance, shall be considered
on an individual basis by the principal of the school. Under typical
circumstances, absences for educationally related trips which
have the approval of the school principal shall be limited to
a maximum of five(5) days per school year.
