151. Diversity

1.Philosophy Statement

The Board of School Directors, administration, faculty and staff of the School District of Springfield Township are committed to creating and maintaining a school community that embraces the educational principles and practices that recognize cultural diversity as essential to the success of a democratic society and to the fulfillment of the District’s mission…to ensure that all students are high achieving, socially and ethically responsible, self-directed and productive, through a higher performing, unified and aligned learning community.

To this end, the Board of School Directors and District employees are committed to providing an environment that:

  • Respects the individual regardless of economic status, race, color, national origin, heritage, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, ability or disability
  • Strengthen, builds and supports a staff that reflects the diversity of the District
  • Honors and respects cultural and language differences
  • Respects the personal rights of others
  • Affirms the rights of others to seek and maintain their own identities with dignity
  • Encourages positive relationships with and among community groups

The Board authorizes the Superintendent to develop regulations that will implement and further the commitments set forth in this policy.
