121. Field Trips

1.Authority

SC 1361

Students should participate in a learning environment which enriches skill development through application and diverse cultural experiences. The Board recognizes the importance of educational field trips. Field trips broaden students' horizons and provide opportunities for students to experience educational concepts first-hand. Trips for all students should fall within the general categories defined in this policy.

The Board shall approve all overnight field trips.

2.Definitions

Curricular field trips Field trips shall be specifically related to the instructional program as a planned activity designed to provide a meaningful learning experience.

Extra-curricular trips Extra-curricular trips shall be directly related to a district sponsored activity or athletic team. Such trips may involve regional competitions, observations and visitations, or performances.

Individual trips The Superintendent may approve student trips with staff accompaniment, for activities in which students are participating in activities relating to individual awards, performances, and conventions.

3.Delegation
of Responsibility

All curricular field trips shall be approved by the principal and Superintendent, or designee.
