108-AR. Adoption of Textbooks

Textbooks will be purchased for use in the Springfield Township schools by the Board, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent.

The following procedure shall be followed in the selection of textbooks:

1. Textbooks are previewed by a committee of teachers and administrators. Teacher representation will include individuals who will be responsible for using the textbooks, and teachers of the same subject area working at different grade levels. Teachers of other subject areas, and other professional staff (such as librarian) may also be included on the committee.
2. The committee's recommendation to purchase a textbook will be made to the Assistant Superintendent.
3. The Assistant Superintendent will make a recommendation to purchase textbooks to the Board of School Directors.
4. The Board of School Directors will allow 30 days to pass prior to approval. During this 30-day period, any member of the public will be allowed, upon request, to review the textbooks under consideration.
