HS Graduation Requirements PDF Print E-mail

The Board requires that each candidate for graduation shall have earned twenty-seven (27) credits and meet District requirements for proficiency as set forth in Administrative Rule 217. Effective for the class of 2014 each candidate for graduation shall have earned twenty-eight (28) credits and meet District requirements for proficiency as set forth in Administrative Rule. The fourth year of high school shall not be required if the student has been accepted by an accredited institution of higher learning and has completed all requirements for graduation.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS        

Minimum requirements for graduation are listed below (Please see High School Curriculum Guide p. 6)

Credits are earned by successful completion of courses.

Language Arts:     5 credits

Social Studies:     4 credits

Mathematics:     3/4 credits**

Science:     3 credits

Arts and Humanities:     2 credits

Physical Education:     1.5 credits (Must be taken three (3) years)

Health:     0.50 credit

Senior Thesis:     0.50 credit

Business and Technology .50 credit

Electives:     7/8 credits

Minimum Graduation Requirements:  27/28 credits


Credits earned in grade 8 are not counted toward graduation requirements.
**Students are required to take three math courses (credits may vary by course).

Students who do not meet proficiency standards of the 11th grade math PSSA must enroll in a specified math course in their senior year and must achieve a final grade of no less than “C” in that course. Students who do not meet proficiency standards of their 11th grade reading or writing PSSA must achieve a final grade of no less than “C” in the required senior year of English.

Exceptions to the above require Superintendent approval.

Students who do not meet proficiency standards of the 11th grade math PSSA and attend the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (ECAT) must meet the mathematics standards for their Program at ECAT.
