The Middle School operates on a 6 day cycle.  Both academic and special courses -- like physical education, career exploration, 7th grade foreign language exploration (FLEX), health/wellness/fitness, and foreign language (French, Spanish, and German) -- follow this cycle.

Students in grades 6 and 7 take 6-day cycle specials every three days all year.  In grade 6, students take PE, Intramurals/Fitness, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).  In 7th grade, students take PE, STEM, and FLEX.  So, for example, a student might have FLEX on days 1 and 4, PE on days 2 and 5, and STEM on days 3 and 6.  The quarterly specials (art, music, tech, and health/wellness) are every day for 1 marking period.

In 8th grade, specials are taken every other day all year.  So, an 8th grade student may have Art/Tech/Music on days 1,3,5 and PE/Fitness on 1,3,5 to balance out a full block of foreign language on days 2,4,6.

The 6-day cycle also affects academic classes.  In each grade level, Science and Social Studies alternate on A/B days.  Cycle days 1,3,5 are A days and 2,4,6 are B days.  Occasionally, the grade level will make adjustments to this schedule based on curricular needs such as labs.
