Dr. Nancy Hacker

Dr. Nancy M. Hacker has been an educator in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey for the past forty years. She began her career in Pennsylvania in the Southeast Delco School District, teaching foreign languages, English, and reading in grades six through twelve, where she continued teaching for fifteen years. She subsequently followed her teaching career as a school district administrator, serving as a high school and middle school assistant principal and as an elementary school principal in the Penn-Delco School District. She then assumed a position as Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction in Haddon Heights, New Jersey, and was quickly promoted to Assistant Superintendent. After six years in that position, Dr. Hacker was selected as Superintendent of the Haddon Heights Public Schools. After serving in that role for six years, Dr. Hacker returned to Pennsylvania as the Superintendent of the Interboro School District in Delaware County before coming to the School District of Springfield Township.

Dr. Hacker is a Cum Laude graduate of Cornell University. She holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Villanova University, and a Doctorate of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Widener University, where she also served as an adjunct instructor. She has been an adjunct instructor in the Department of Reading at Rowan University and a literacy consultant for numerous school districts for the past twelve years, with much of her work focused on the development of school-wide literacy programs, reading comprehension and instructional strategies, and reading and writing instruction in the content areas. At Rowan University, she has taught reading courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, where she was awarded the Professional Development Advocate Award in 2002. While in New Jersey, Dr. Hacker served on numerous statewide committees on curriculum and instruction and educational leadership. Dr. Hacker continues to serve as a consultant to school districts, providing workshops for teachers on a variety of topics. She has been a featured speaker at numerous national, state, and local conferences over the past decade, for organizations such as the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the International Reading Association.  Dr. Hacker has also taught graduate level courses in educational administration at Delaware Valley University.  She is currently an adjunct instructor teaching Master's degree and doctoral level coursework in educational administration and education leadership at Gwynedd Mercy University, where she also serves as an advisor for doctorate students.

Dr. Carl Atkinson has been an educator in both public and private schools for the past twenty-nine years.  He began his career at The Faith Christian School teaching middle school social studies and religion.  In the fall of 1992, Carl joined the faculty of Wissahickon Middle School as an eighth grade social studies teacher.  In 2001 Carl became a staff development specialist for the Wissahickon School District and began his administrative duties two years later when he was appointed as the secondary curriculum supervisor; a position that he held for five years.  Just prior to joining the team at Springfield Township, Carl served at the Assistant Superintendent of the Saucon Valley School District, were he worked extensively in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and professional development. 


Dr. Carl Atkinson is a graduate of Arcadia University, Chestnut Hill College, and the University of Pennsylvania.  He serves as an adjunct faculty member at Arcadia in their doctoral program for educational leadership.  Carl also serves as a consultant for the Danielson Group, which provides professional development to teachers and administrators in the area of educator effectiveness. 

At The School District of Springfield Township Carl works across the district on matters pertaining to curriculum, instruction, and assessments; including coordinating initiatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.  He will coordinate Federal Programs and will work with the administration to plan and organize professional learning opportunities for faculty and staff.

Dr. Damian Johnston

 Dr. Damian B. Johnston has been an educator in Pennsylvania in a variety of settings for over 20 years. She began her career providing home based early intervention services to infants and toddlers with disabilities. She spent the next 17 years working in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf (PSD), first as an elementary teacher working with kindergarten-second grade, and then later moving into an instructional coach supporting positive behavioral supports within classrooms. In 1999, she became the Early Childhood Instructional Supervisor and provided instructional and program oversight to the early childhood/elementary programs at PSD. In 2005, she became the Director of the Early Childhood program where she provided oversight of a program of 100 children which included infants through kindergarten.  She worked to establish a preschool program for typical children to provide inclusion opportunities for the students with hearing loss. 

Dr. Johnston began working at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit in 2010 and served as a special education supervisor for both preschool early intervention and school age programs; later serving as an Assistant Director in the Office of Student Services providing oversight in early childhood, preschool early intervention and school age programs.   She provided collaborative support and consultation to the Head Start Administrators specifically educational coaching and consultation for the instructional framework. 

Dr. Johnston earned a Doctoral degree from Arcadia University in 2005, a Master's degree in Educational Leadership in 1999 and a Bachelor's degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in teaching students with hearing loss in 1992.  In addition, she serves as an adjunct faculty member at Arcadia University, teaching undergraduate and graduate students since 2005.  Dr. Johnston has PDE Certificates as an Elementary Principal, Special Education Supervisor and Teacher of the Hearing Impaired.  At The School District of Springfield Township Dr. Johnston works across the district on matters pertaining to special education, inclusion, and ensuring effective and appropriate supports are in place for students.  Dr. Johnston also serves as the District Title IX Coordinator and Compliance Officer.

Ken King is a graduate of West Chester University with a B.S. in Accounting. Prior to graduating from college he began his career in school district finances as an accounts payable clerk with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit and later as their Federal Project Accountant. After eight years with the IU he went on to serve eight years with the School District of Upper Moreland Township first as the Accounting Supervisor and then as the Assistant Business Manager. The following ten years of his career were with the Interboro School District as the Director of Finance. Mr. King also served as the Business Manager for the EASTERN Center for Arts and Technology directly prior to becoming the Business Administrator for Springfield Township School District in August 2013.

Katie Braun received her B.A. in Business Administration from Arcadia University, her Accountancy Certificate from Villanova University and her M.S. in Education for School Business Leadership from Wilkes University. Ms. Braun comes to Springfield Township School District from Centennial School District where over the past two years she served as Assistant Business Manager. She also spent time filling in as Transportation Supervisor and  Business Manager. Prior to that she was with the School District of Upper Dublin where she served as Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, the Director of Upper Dublin Adult Evening School, and also as the bookkeeper for the Upper Dublin Education Foundation.

Ms. Emily Kehr

Emily Kehr is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a B.A. degree in Psychology and Holy Family University where she earned a Master's of Human Resource Management degree.  Emily works as the Director of Human Resources for the school district.  She came to SDST from the Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 where she worked for over 5 years supporting the 13 districts and vocational schools in Bucks County.

Mr. Rich Oliver

Richard works as the Director Technology for the school district.  Mr. Oliver joined the Springfield Township community in November of 2013 and has been in Educational Technology for the past nineteen years.  He has enjoyed serving students and staff in both Delaware and Chester County school districts.  Mr. Oliver earned his B.S in Information Technology at University of Phoenix and his M.S. in Technology and Instructional Technology at Saint Joseph’s University.  He supports all district technology services, hardware, websites, networks and software, including the Federal eRate technology-funding program.

Mr. Wayne Johnston

Wayne B. Johnston is a graduate of Upper Dublin High School and has served as the Director of Transportation for our school district since 1984. He is responsible for transporting all the students in our township as well as over 100 other private, parochial and special needs schools.

He has been elected president of the Montgomery Bucks Pupil Transportation Association an unprecedented five times and has won their Supervisor of the Year award three times. He has been elected president of the Pupil Transportation Association of Pennsylvania twice and is currently serving his second term. He has been a featured speaker at local, state and national conferences and serves on several Penn DOT task forces.

He wrote the initial chapter on alternative fuels for the National Congress on School Transportation and has served on that panel since 1990. He is an active member of the Pennsylvania School Boards Association Board of Directors. Mr. Johnston, and his department, received the Association of School Business Officials International “Pinnacle of Excellence Award” in 1996 and is the only transportation director, transportation department or for that matter, Pennsylvanian ,to be honored with this award.

He is the Maitre' D at Cin Cin Restaurant in Chestnut Hill and has participated in the Philly Cooks competition with Yang Ming in Bryn Mawr. He also enjoys coaching college baseball players in the Pen Del League, where with his two sons as players, the team won the league championship in 2005. His active involvement in the industry made it possible to bring the first and only pure methanol powered school bus ever built to Springfield.

His adventures also include stints with CART and Indy Car racing teams. His current focus is on bringing the ground breaking and the next generation of school transportation, fuel cell and battery powered school buses, to our district as he is working with Proterra LLC and TransTech to make that dream a reality for our district.
